About us

“環境”と聞いて想像する世界―森、畑、川、大気―は、足元の世界、つまり土壌と密接に繋がっています。土壌とは、鉱物・有機物・微生物の混合物で、1ｃｍの厚さが約100年かけて生成されます。土壌は、炭素や養分元素の循環の要であり、環境問題解決の鍵としても、近年注目されています。

土壌の物理構造、化学組成、微生物群集組成は、どれも非常に複雑・多様であるため、「地球上最も複雑な物質」、また、科学における「最後のフロンティア」とも呼ばれます。私達は、土壌の性質や機能について、土壌学・生物地球化学・微生物生態学を基盤に、野外調査（土堀りや圃場実験）からラボ実験、同位体・顕微分析や放射光X線分析まで、幅広い手法を融合して研究しています。

若手研究者育成も大事なミッションです。本気で土壌研究に取り組みたい、特に世界で活躍できる研究者を目指したい大学院生（修士・博士課程）やポスドクを募集しています。学振PD等の相談にものります。まずは気軽に和穎まで連絡下さい（連絡先ページ参照）。

Our laboratory conducts basic and applied research on soils to better understand how soils regulate ecosystem functioning and agricultural sustainability, using approaches from soil science, biogeochemistry, and microbial ecology. We work closely with undergraduate and graduate students and conduct both field- and laboratory-based experiments, as well as advanced soil characterization using standard and cutting-edge techniques.
